The Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça, also known as the Royal Abbey of Santa Maria de Alcobaça or more simply as the Monastery of Alcobaça is the first fully gothic work erected on Portuguese soil. Convent of Cós
The Monastery of Santa Maria de Cos, also known as the Convent of Cós, is situated in the municipality of Alcobaça Coz. Its origins go back to the twelfth century, at which time the Monastery of Alcobaça acquires properties in Cos. By the hand of the Abbot of Alcobaca, D. Fernando, that the convent would be built first, designed to accommodate widows who wanted to lead a religious life.Opening hours:
